When you enter a drugstore, you see signs saying „anti-wrinkle cream” or „brightening serum.” In most cases, these are just marketing claims from the manufacturer. However, in South Korea, there is an official, officially controlled product category: Functional Cosmetics .

The difference between marketing and law
A functional cosmetic is a product that falls between regular skincare and medical dermatology. For a manufacturer to use this designation, the formula must be submitted to and approved by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety ( MFDS ).
What guarantees the status of a functional cosmetic?
Proven effectiveness: The product has undergone rigorous laboratory tests confirming that it has a real impact on the processes occurring in the skin.
Specific spectrum of action: Certification is only granted in specific cases: wrinkle reduction, lightening of discolorations (hyperpigmentation) and protection against UV radiation.
Stability and purity of the composition: You can be sure that the active ingredients are given in concentrations that actually work, and not just look nice on the label.
